The Malabon city government and the Social Security Service (SSS) inked on Thursday, Nov. 23, a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to implement a program in the city that will ensure the social security protection of informal economy workers and individually paying members of the national agency.

Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval and SSS President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rolando Macasaet led the MOA signing for the "KaSSSangga Collect Program" at the Malabon Sports Complex.

SSS said that through the program, workers who are under job order (JO) or Contract of Service (COS) terms who are not covered by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) will be ensured of their active SSS membership.

The membership will allow them to access various social security benefits such as sickness, maternity, disability, retirement, death, and funeral, including short-term loan privileges like salary and calamity loan and employee's compensation benefits for work-related contingencies (according to sss.gov.ph).

Sandoval thanked the national agency for its willingness to partner with the local government in advocating for the security coverage of the city's COS and JO employees through the program.

"This memorandum signifies more than just a formal agreement; it symbolizes our commitment to the welfare of our employees," she said.

"By extending social security coverage to our workforce, we are not merely signing a piece of paper; we are affirming our dedication to providing a safety net for those who contribute tirelessly to the progress of our city," she added

Sandoval said she is also proud to lead a city that values its workers and acknowledges the significance of safeguarding their well-being.

"Our vision extends beyond economic growth; it includes creating an environment where every worker feels secure, valued, and empowered," she said.

"I am optimistic that this collaboration will yield positive outcomes, leading to greater stability and security for our workers," the mayor added.

"I want to express my anticipation for the future and the positive impact this partnership will have on our community. Let us continue to stand united in our commitment to progress, equity, and the welfare of our citizens" Sandoval said.

For his part, Macasaet said he is happy that the city employees will become members of the SSS as they will be able to get benefits once they retire which will help them and their families in the future.

Present during the event were the city councilors, SSS representatives, and city government employees.
