Phivolcs observes increased seismicity in Kanlaon Volcano
Kanlaon Volcano experienced an increase in seismic activity after 15 volcano-tectonic earthquakes occurred between 3:58 a.m. and 5 a.m., said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Wednesday, Nov. 22.

"These earthquakes ranged in energy from magnitude 1.4 to 4.2 and occurred at depths of zero to 2 kilometers beneath the northern flank of the Kanlaon range," Phivolcs said in an advisory at 8 a.m.
It also noticed an increase in volcanic sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission from 570 tons per day on May 1 to 1,017 tons per day on Nov. 14.
Phivolcs advised the public and local government units to exercise caution and avoid passing through the four-kilometer permanent danger zone due to the increased possibility of abrupt and hazardous phreatic eruptions "occurring without warning" at Kanlaon Volcano, which was still on Alert Level 1.
"Should the above uptrend in monitoring parameters persist, the volcano status may be raised to Alert Level 2 to warn of increasing unrest," it said.
