PH Red Cross, partners provide meals to students on World Pasta Day
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) said on Wednesday, Nov. 22 that food donations have been given to students at Villamor Air Base Elementary School, including Red Cross Youth, by its partners, Barilla and the Marriott Hotel Manila.

The PRC expressed gratitude to its partners for donating 500 bowls of nutritious pasta and 500 banana loaves to the students to celebrate World Pasta Day last Oct. 25.
"We've partnered with hotels, restaurants, bakeries, and food storage facilities to provide food for the most vulnerable, whether during times of disaster or in non-disaster situations. I am grateful to all our partners for helping PRC support our most vulnerable communities," PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon said.
The Marriott Hotel has been a food donor, serving freshly cooked food to over 20,000 beneficiaries of the PRC for over 12 years.
Marriott's Executive Chef Meik Brammer shared that donating food to the underprivileged through the PRC is one approach the hotel takes toward addressing food waste.
Furthermore, according to the PRC, food donations significantly address two of the organization's key advocacies: food insecurity and child malnutrition, which Gordon also stated during his talk at the International Society for Southeast Asian Agricultural Sciences conference on Nov. 8.

Gordon also clarified that the foods provided by the donors are untouched food from buffet tables—not leftovers.
The food donation activity was facilitated by PRC's food coordinator Micot Juico and PRC-Pasay City Chapter staff Shara Mae Arceo.
