The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said one to two tropical cyclones may form or enter the country’s area of responsibility next month.

In its climate outlook forum on Wednesday, Nov. 22, PAGASA-Climatology and Agrometeorology Division (CAD) Senior Weather Specialist Remedios Ciervo said there are five common cyclone tracks in December: recurving toward the eastern portion of the Philippine area of responsibility or PAR (non-landfalling); recurving toward the northeastern part of PAR (non-landfalling); traversing North and Central Luzon (landfalling); traversing Southern Luzon to Central Visayas (landfalling); and traversing Southern Visayas to Northern Mindanao (landfalling.)
The local names of the next tropical cyclones will be Kabayan and Liwayway, based on the PAGASA’s list.
PAGASA also noted that two to five tropical cyclones may form or enter the PAR by the first quarter of 2024.
