The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) said on Wednesday, Nov. 22, that it expects an executive order that will fast track the Marcos administration’s infrastructure flagship projects (IFPs) will be released “very soon.”
NEDA Undersecretary for Investment Programming Joseph J. Capuno said during a forum that the Office of the President is currently having a final review of the infrastructure projects.
“We expect the EO to be issued within the year very, very, very soon. Final touches nalang yun. The idea is to expedite the approval of all those projects that have already gone through the NEDA board and are already part of the infrastructure flagship projects,” Capuno told reporters.
There are currently 197 IFPs amounting to about P8.7 trillion or $156.4 billion. One of the 197 IFPs, or the Samar Pacific Coastal Road Project, has already been completed, according to NEDA.
Asked if the 12 IFPs that were earlier announced to be completed by year-end are still on track, Capuno said: “I believe so. We hope so.”
These projects include the C5 South Link Expressway Project, the Southeast Metro Manila Expressway Project, and the proposed Virology Science and Technology Institute of the Philippines.
Some of these projects were started during the previous administration or under the presidency of Rodrigo Duterte.
Further, Capuno noted that at least three to four infrastructure projects are expected to be approved come the NEDA board convenes on Dec. 14.
