Maynilad Water Services, Inc. said the company has invested more than P240 billion to improve services and broaden distribution coverage in the West Zone of the Greater Manila area.

In a statement, Ramoncito S. Fernandez, Maynilad president and chief executive officer, said the West Zone concessionaire has implemented several projects from 2007 to 2023 to improve its water services.

These include laying 6,821 kilometers of new water pipelines, rehabilitating old and nonfunctional facilities, installing valves and other measuring devices throughout the water infrastructure network.

Maynilad also constructed 30 new pumping stations, 28 new reservoirs, five new water treatment plants, and 20 new wastewater treatment plants, as well as developing new water sources, particularly in its southern area.

For this year alone, Maynilad said it has allocated over P24 billion to improve and extend its water and wastewater services, representing a 71 percent increase in capital outlay compared to last year's P14 billion expenditure.

Of that amount, P4 billion was directed toward improving Maynilad's sewerage and sanitation initiatives, while P8.5 billion was invested in upgrading and constructing essential facilities to elevate water service standards.

Furthermore, nearly P3.2 billion was allowed to the company's Non-Revenue Water (NRW) reduction program.

Moreover, Maynilad said the capital expenditure projects led by Metro Pacific, DMCI, and Marubeni since 2007 have led to the generation of almost 445,000 jobs, including those offered by its contractors and suppliers.

“Our infrastructure enhancements have resulted in significant, tangible results where formerly waterless communities now enjoy piped-in water supply," Fernandez said.

“There is still a lot to be done, as emerging water industry challenges call for sustained investment to ensure water security and sustainability for a growing population,” he added.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) in the Philippines based on its customer base.

Its service area encompasses the cities of Manila, Quezon City, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, and Malabon.

Additionally, it covers the cities of Cavite, Bacoor, and Imus, as well as the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario. (Gabriell Christel Galang)
