According to the rescuers, the man started to climb the more than 100 feet high electric post at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday after first climbing a tree.
The residents urged him to climb down the tree but instead of heeding them, he transferred to the electric post and continued his ascent.
BFP Marikina Fire Chief Inspector Allan Floresca said the authorities had a difficult time in catching the man as he kept on veering away from the rescuers while they were trying to approach him. The height of the electric post was also a deterrent.
A cushion bag had also been set up in case the man falls or jumps from the post.
The authorities have shut down the electric supply in the area.
