K-pop idol group BTS’ youngest member, Jungkook, announced that he will be enlisting in the military in December.
Military service is a mandatory duty for all Korean men and on Nov. 22, Big Hit Music, BTS’ agency, announced that RM, Jimin, Jungkook and V have started the process of their military service by applying to cancel their privilege granted to them under the law allowing them to postpone their military service until age 30.

Jin, J-Hope and Suga are currently in the military for the service.
In a post on the Weverse app, Jungkook, 26, announced to BTS ARMYs that he will be enlisting in December and will be serving for 18 months.
"I am beginning a new journey in December and will be temporarily leaving your side to fulfill my military duty. A part of my heart feels heavy to share this news, while another part of my heart warms to think back on the precious memories I had with ARMY," said Jungkook, the Korea JoongAng Daily reported.
He added, “Every moment of life that I shared with you had been the brightest moment of my life. ARMY's laughter, support and love have led me here to where I am now. Thank you so much for taking this road with me."
Jungkook added, “I do feel cautious about asking you to wait while I serve. A year and six months is a long time, so I will not say anything selfish, but I only promise you that I will take the stage again when I'm back — where I always was, but grown up even more."
"I will miss you in the deepest of my hearts until the day we meet again and share our stories. Stay healthy and stay safe. I love you."
BTS members have been focusing on their individual careers since last year owing to their military service.
They are aiming to regroup in 2025 after their mandatory duties are finished.
