The Philippine Coast Guard stationed in the island of Calayan, reported on Wednesday that around 9 a.m. on Monday, the boat carrying nine passengers and five crew capsized after leaving Brgy. Balatubat, Camiguin and was supposed to go to the town of Aparri.
The boat reportedly had no permission from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to travel because the gale warning was still up in the coastal parts of Northern Luzon, including Camiguin Island.
At around 11:30 a.m., the MB AGALEXA 02 capsized due to strong waves brought by the bad weather on the island.
Authorities conducted search and rescue operations using MB St. Perer and MB Carl Jansam to rescue the passengers.
The passengers were immediately taken to the island's Rural Health Unit for treatment.
