The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) welcomed the Department of Budget and Management’s (DBM) approval of an additional P3 billion in funding for the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.
“We welcome the DBM’s approval of the additional P3 billion budget of AICS. This is in response to the increasing demand for support services from individuals and families who are undergoing crisis,” DSWD spokesperson and Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications Romel Lopez said on Wednesday, Nov. 22.
DBM Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman on Nov. 16 announced the approval of the release of the Special Allotment Release Order for the additional funding for DSWD’s AICS program for the year 2023 and its corresponding Notice of Cash Allocation.
The DBM said the release of the additional funding will cover the budget deficiency for the AICS program, and is aligned with the directive of President Marcos Jr. to strengthen social protection measures.
“This initiative will help the DSWD continue providing assistance to individuals and families facing difficulties for the remaining months of 2023,” Lopez pointed out.
With the additional funding in place, he said more individuals in need of various aid can seek medical, burial, transportation, educational, food and financial assistance from the DSWD.
“[A] substantial amount shall be used to support infrastructure projects and social programs, including financial assistance to indigent individuals or families,” DBM said in the special provision.
