1 killed, 370,000 individuals displaced by flooding in N. Samar

TENT CITY - Evacuees are temporarily sheltered in a Tent City in Northern Samar.

 

TACLOBAN CITY - A woman died after being struck by a tree during a landslide in Pambujan, Northern Samar, on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

The victim was identified as Lara Cabides, a resident of Brgy. Ynaguingayan, Pambujan town.

Reports disclosed that she was found lifeless by the 19th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army while they were conducting clearing and rescue operations in the area.

Governor Edwin Ongchuan placed the entire Province of Northern Samar under a state of calamity, on Tuesday, Nov. 21. 

The declaration was made in response to the severe impact of heavy rainfall which resulted in flooding and extensive damage to infrastructure and crops in the province.

A total of 370,000 individuals or 74,500 families were affected by the massive flooding caused by the heavy rains that reached up to 796.6mm brought about by the shear line in Northern Samar.
 

Ongchuan expressed gratitude to the volunteers, officials, and organizations who supported their evacuees. 

"With around 3,000 seeking refuge at the gymnasium and the Sumoroy Hall (Catarman), we've provided basic necessities, medical aid, and sanitary facilities. We're working hard to address any concerns and improve their conditions," he said. 

"Let's rebuild their lives and communities once stability returns. Together, we'll overcome this adversity and emerge stronger as a community."

Over 3,000 individuals remain temporarily sheltered at the Sumuroy Hall at the Provincial Capitol in Catarman, Northern Samar due to massive flooding in the municipality's 55 barangays.
