N. Samar placed under state of calamity


TACLOBAN CITY - Governor Edwin Ongchuan placed the entire Province of Northern Samar under a state of calamity, on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

The declaration was made in response to the severe impact of heavy rainfall, flooding, and extensive damage to infrastructure and crops in the province.

A total of 370,000 individuals or 74,500 families were affected by the massive flooding caused by the heavy rains that reached up to 796.6mm brought about by the shear line.

In Catarman town, all 55 barangays were flooded covering some houses in low-lying areas.

In the municipality of Catubig where the water level reached up to 3.6 meters and affected 41 barangays, a total of 7,499 families have evacuated.

A landslide was also reported in Brgy. Sagudsuran. 

Work and classes remain suspended while clearing operations are ongoing.

Power lines are disconnected in Palapag town where roads and bridges along the rivers are flooded.

Laoang has 30 affected barangays with 7,596 families displaced, while Mapanas has 13 barangays affected with 1,866 families displaced.

Meanwhile, Bobon has a total of nine barangays with 7,203 families who fled their homes.
