MMDA ready for extended transport strike, says over 600 vehicles remain standby for free ride
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has expressed readiness to address the expected shortage of public transport as transport group Manibela announced that it will join the protest action against Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).
MMDA chairman Don Artes said the 686 vehicles that they prepared since the first day of transport strike will remain on standby until Friday, Nov. 24, as Manibela said its transport strike will also be for three days.
But unlike on the first day of the transport strike of Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON), the MMDA will not suspend the number coding on Wednesday, Nov. 22.
The decision was apparently buoyed by what authorities described as failure of PISTON to paralyze the public transport system since Monday.
Artes earlier said that the MMDA only dispatched around 100 vehicles since the Monday strike for the free ride.
