Petro Gazz finally regained its old form by downing Farm Fresh, 25-22, 19-25, 25-16, 26-24, on Tuesday, Nov. 21, in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Angels recovered from a second-set stumble and survived the late attempts of the Foxies to snap a four-game losing skid and jump back into the winning column.
Jonah Sabete displayed her all-around game by firing 16 kills, three blocks and two aces to finish with 21 points for Petro Gazz, which improved its win-loss record to 5-4.
Grethcel Soltones also provided offensive firepower for the Angels with 13 hits for 16 points, while lefty Aiza Pontilla chipped in 13 points.
Attacks from Sabete and Pontillas untangled Petro Gazz from a 14-all deadlock to a 23-21 lead in the fourth set before a net touch from Grethcel Soltones allowed Farm Fresh to regain control.
An ace from Alyssa Bertolano and another unforced error from the Angels put the Foxies at set point, 24-23, before a wide spike from Kate Santiago tied it once again at 24-all.
From then on, Petro Gazz refused to give up the momentum as Soltones pumped in back-to-back kills to seal the victory.
Two other players scored in double figures for the Angels with Marian Buitre and KC Galdones contributing 10 points apiece.
Farm Fresh failed to follow up its straight- set win over Gerflor last week as it sank to 1-8 despite another impressive performance from Trisha Tubu, who uncorked 20 points on 18 kills, one block and one ace.
Rizza Cruz and Samantha Nolasco also scored 11 points each in a futile attempt for the Foxies.
