41 motorcycles impounded as LTO starts 'No Registration, No Travel' policy
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has impounded 41 motorcycles as it starts the implementation of “No Registration, No Travel” policy after its data disclosed that there are around 24.7 million motor vehicles with expired registration across the country.
The 24.7 million delinquent motor vehicles, most of them are motorcycles, represent 65 percent of all motor vehicles in the country.
LTO chief Vigor D. Mendoza II said he also sought the assistance of the Philippine National Police, through its Highway Patrol Group and local police forces, to help the agency implement the policy in order to compel delinquent motor vehicle owners to register.
“Those impounded are from Metro Manila but delinquent motor vehicle owners should expect a nationwide operation since we already tasked our enforcers and asked the assistance of the PNP on this matter,” said Mendoza.
The LTO, through its aw Enforcement Section (LES) has started deploying enforcers in areas where motorcycles usually travel, such as along Katipunan Avenue and along Aurora Boulevard.
“All the apprehended drivers were issued with citation tickets and all the motorcycles with no registration were impounded,” said Mendoza.
“The operation we conducted in Metro Manila should serve as a warning to all delinquent motor vehicle owners to register them in the soonest possible time. They should not wait to be apprehended since this would mean serious troubles for them,” he added.
