A total of 144 newly-elected village officials in Navotas City were sworn in to officially start their terms as public servants at the Navotas Sports Complex on Monday, Nov. 20.
The officials from the city's 18 barangays took their oath before Navotas City Mayor John Reynald "John Rey" Tiangco who challenged them to leave a legacy to their constituents within their two-year term.
“Serving others is a privilege. As government officials, we have a great responsibility to help ensure a good life for our fellow Navoteños. Use barangay funds honestly and efficiently, treat your constituents as part of your family, and always seek to expand your knowledge to improve the quality of your service and leadership,” Tiangco said.
“We may not be able to solve all the problems or issues we encounter, but we should always strive to create a lasting positive impact to our community,” he added.

The city government said there are 288 elected Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (BSK) officials in the city following the elections on Oct. 30.
Tiangco also encouraged the barangay leaders to help the residents of the villages to become aware of and avail of the city government's services and programs.
Navotas City Representative Toby Tiangco reminded the officials that they should fulfill their promises to their constituents and lead by example as public servants.
“We must uphold the oath we took as public servants. Let us set a good example to our constituents by being the first to follow rules and ordinances,” he said.
The local government said the newly elected SK officials already took their oath last Nov. 13. They were also present during the oath-taking ceremony of the village officials.
Prior to their oath-taking, the SK officials and members of the city's Local Youth Development Council underwent a mandatory training to prepare and help them perform their duties and responsibilities as representatives of the youth.
