VP Sara does not deserve to be ousted --- Marcos

Vice President Sara Duterte does not deserve to be impeached, President Marcos said as he affirmed that Duterte continues to enjoy his full support.

“Binabantayan namin nang mabuti (We are closely monitoring it) because we don’t want her to be impeached. We don’t want her to—she does not deserve to be impeached. So, we will make sure that this is something that we will pay very close attention to,” Marcos said.

The President made the remarks when he was sought for reaction on the reported plans to impeach the Vice President, his running mate in the 2022 elections, during a media interview with Manila-based reporters in Hawaii on Monday, Nov. 20 (Manila time).

He added that impeachment calls against high-ranking officials is not something new as he emphasized that there will always be “an element” that wants “to change the results of an election.”

However, he said, that's not a reason to be impeached.

“So, I guess, a continuing evolution of that thinking na basta ayaw namin diyan, tanggalin natin, i-impeach natin. Well, meron naman sigurong dahilan kung hindi lang ayaw sa amin ( that just because you don't want her, you will oust her, let's impeach her. Well, there must be a reason other than wanting someone to be ousted) That’s not a reason to be impeached,” Marcos stressed.

Asked if there is already a “crack” in the Uniteam, the President said that he does not see it coming, emphasizing that they are even getting stronger and bigger with the addition of more members.

“These are the same people that talk about impeachment. They are the same people that talk ‘wala na, nagbabaklas-baklas na yung Uniteam.’ Hindi totoo yun (it's over, Uniteam is falling apart). Tingnan na lang n'yo mga (Just look at the) political developments in the past few months,” Marcos said.

The Chief Executive also stressed that on a personal level, he and Duterte have an excellent relationship as he emphasized that he sees nothing but good things about her work in the Department of Education (DepEd).

Duterte is the concurrent DepEd Secretary.
