Hair strands recovered inside car allegedly used in disposing a body matched with DNA of Camilon's parents
The hair strands that were recovered inside a red vehicle, which witnesses said was used in the disposal of a bloodied body in Batangas, matched with the DNA samples provided by the parents of beauty pageant contestant Catherine Camilon, an official of the Philippine National Police (PNP) disclosed on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said the information on the results of the DNA test was disclosed to her during a meeting with members of the PNP-Forensics Group.
“This is a positive development because if you would recall, there were two witnesses who said that they saw a body being transferred from a Nissan Juke to a red Honda CRV,” said Fajardo.
“The positive match on the DNA profile of the parents of the missing victim means that the victim at least boarded that vehicle,” he added.
The Nissan Juke was the vehicle being driven by Camilon before she went missing last month.
The red Honda CRV was recovered on a road leading to Bauan, Batangas and aside from the hair strands, police said they saw stains of blood inside—which also corroborated the statements of two witnesses that they saw three men transferring a bloodied body into that vehicle.
Fajardo said one of the three men that the two police witnesses said was the personal driver of Police Maj. Alan de Castro.
De Castro and three others were charged with kidnapping and serious illegal detention in connection with Camilon’s disappearance.
Police, however, said they are still treating Camilon as a missing person.
De Castro earlier admitted to having an illicit affair with Camilon and police said that prior to her disappearance, the latter was a victim of physical abuse and already wanted to break up with the police official.
