Experience an unforgettable night filled with music, energy, and charisma as Poppert Bernadas takes you on a journey in his solo concert entitled "Who Put The Pop in Poppert?" at the Music Museum on Nov. 11.

With a blend of creativity and vocal prowess, Poppert is set to mesmerize the audience with a musical journey that transcends generations. Directed by Floy Quintos, Poppert's captivating presence and undeniable vocal prowess will leave you in awe. Marlon Barnuevo is musical director.

"Si Floy Quintos po ang nakaisip nun. Sabi ko sa kanya magko-concert ako ngayong November so bigla niyang naisip yung title na yun. Go lang ako ng go," said Poppert, when asked about his concert, during a press conference held at Five Private Dining in Greenhills, San Juan City last Oct. 30. (It was Floy Quintos who thought of that. I told him I would be doing a concert this November so he suddenly thought of that title.)

Poppert added: "All hits ang concert mo. Sabi nila kumanta raw ako ng Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, George Michael. Eighty percent ng repertoire ko ngayon ko lang kakantahin kaya masaya ito. Sabi niya wala kang guest ikaw lang."

(My concert is all hits. I will sing hits by Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, and George Michael. I will perform eighty percent of my repertoire for the first time so that it will be fun. I don't have any guests.)

Poppert joins A Team

OPM icon Ogie Alcasid said Poppert is one of two artists currently managed by the Alcasid Total Entertainment Artist Management (A Team). The other artist is Lara Maigue. Ogie reminisced about how he came to manage Poppert's talent.

"One time, nag re-rehearse kami, sabi ko, sino ba itong malakas na boses na ito? Napakahusay. Noong pandemic, napansin ko si Poppert napakasipag sa Kumu, malakas kumita. Tinext ko siya kung gusto niyang sumali sa A-Team. I have been managing him for more than two years. Heto na meron siyang major concert sa Music Museum," Ogie said.

(One time, we were rehearsing, I said, who is this loud voice? It's great. During the pandemic, I noticed Poppert was very hardworking at Kumu, making a lot of money. I texted him if he wanted to join the A Team. I have been managing him for more than two years. Now he has a major concert at the Music Museum.)

According to Ogie, Poppert is a versatile artist who has multiple talents. He has a keen interest in various genres of music, as well as songwriting.

"Poppert is also a songwriter Napakahusay niyang sumulat ng kanta. So we're trying to release more songs for him. Basta tuloy-tuloy lang yung pagkanta and hopefully, this concert will open more avenues for him para makilala pa siya. Sinama namin siya noon sa Europe at hit na hit siya sa mga matatanda. Napakagaling talaga nito. I think maganda na may mga bagong singers na tulad niya na power singer kung tawagin. Ang laki ng range niya. He's someone I'm very proud of. Mapa-rock, mapa-pop, ballad, a little classical, kaya niya," Ogie also said.

(Poppert is also a songwriter. He writes songs very well. So we're trying to release more songs for him.  Just continue singing; hopefully, this concert will open more avenues for him to get to know him more. We brought him along then in Europe; he was a hit with the adults. It's really good. I think it's good that there are new singers like him who are power singers. His voice range is amazing. He's someone I'm very proud of. Be it rock, pop, ballad, or a little classical, he can do it.)

Poppert is also into acting as he appeared in several television series such as "Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin," and "Starla." He just wrapped up "How To Move On in 30 Days" and "The Goodbye Girl."

When asked how he felt when Ogie offered to manage him, Poppert said: "Grabe. Na-amaze lang talaga ako dahil during pandemic, marami pa rin ang lumalapit na blessings sa amin and isa na si Sir Ogie." (Great. I was really amazed because during the pandemic, many blessings are still coming to us and one of them is Sir Ogie.)

Generous power couple

Poppert also expressed his gratitude for the kindness of Ogie's wife, Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez. She even offered to collaborate on a new song after he had scheduling conflicts with another artist.

"Sobrang generous lang talaga ng power couple na ito. When Regine found out na nag-clash lang sa schedule ng recording, nasa dinner kami noon, noong nalaman ni Ms Reg sabi nya, e di ako na lang ang mag record. Doon na nangyari ang lahat. Ang saya lang ng gabi na yun. Our song is called "Bitaw." It's on Spotify now," the rising singer said.

He's an OPM icon at concert king na rin. Nahihiya na rin talaga ako sa kanya until now. At hindi magbabago yun."

(Even though Sir Ogie is my boss, I'm a fan. My boss is inspiring because even in his state, he's busy. So I have no right not to move around and work. He's an OPM icon and a concert king as well. I'm ashamed of him until now. And that won't change.)

Ogie revealed his talent management strategy for Poppert.

"Yung mga ganitong klaseng talent once in a lifetime ka lang makakarinig ng ganyan. Ang daming avenues for him like the theater, the concert scene, recording, etc. Pero sana ang gusto ko sana sayo ay magfocus as a singer, as songwriter and as a concert artist. It would be nice if we can establish that for you.

(This kind of talent is only heard once in a lifetime. He has many avenues, like the theater, the concert scene, recording, etc. But I hoped you could focus on being a singer, songwriter, and concert artist. It would be nice if we could establish that for you.)

"Five years from now, hindi ko masasabi. It will depend on how hard you work and how hard we work for him. Collaborative work, yan eh. Balanse, basbas ng Panginoon, panahon. Gusto ko sana unti-unti. I didn't mind kung anu-ano ang ginawa ko. Nag pelikula ako, nag TV, kung anu-ano hanggat nahanap ko yung stride ko at naramdaman ko pwede na. I had a string of hits. That's all we want to do for him. To have songs na makilala siya for it and then establish himself as a concert/recording artist," Ogie added.

(Five years from now, I can't say. It will depend on how hard you work and how hard we work for him. Collaborative work, that's it: balance, the Lord's blessing, time. I would like to gradually. I don't mind what I did in the past. I did movies, TV, and whatever until I found my stride and felt it was possible. I had a string of hits. That's all we want to do for him. To have songs that recognize him for it and then establish himself as a concert/recording artist.)

Poppert and Lara

Ogie's company currently manages Poppert and Lara but plans to recruit more artists soon.

"Napakahirap mag-manage ng talent. Maliit lang naman ang opisina namin. Noong itinayo namin ang A Team ang adbokasiya talaga namin ay tulungan ang mga artist na walang manager. Yung mga walang access sa network although ngayon may access na sila sa social media. It is also my way of giving back sa industriya na naging napakabuti po sa akin at sa pamilya ko.

(It's very difficult to manage talents. Our office is small. When we built A Team, our advocacy was really to help artists who don't have a manager. Those who don't have access to the network, although now they have access to social media. It is also my way of giving back to the industry that has been so good to me and my family.)

"Dalawa lang kasi gusto namin na magfocus sa mga mahuhusay na artist na sa aming palagay dapat bigyan ng pagkakataon na makilala at hopefully sumikat," he said. (We only have two singers because we want to focus on talented artists who should be given a chance to shine and hopefully become popular.)

Despite marking his 35th year in the industry this year, Ogie plans to celebrate his showbiz anniversary in 2024 or 2025.

"Next year, after our Valentine concert, may gagawin kami sa April. Ginagawa na rin namin yung musical based on my compositions, probably November of next year. And then yung out of the country tours din namin. So marami kaming gagawin next year.

(Next year, after our Valentine's concert, we will do something in April. We are also doing the musical based on my compositions, probably in November of next year. And then our out-of-the-country tours, too. So we will do a lot next year.)

"Actually, anniversary ko talaga is this year. This is my 35th year. Kaya lang it's also Regine's big concert. So gusto ko siya na lang muna. Then next year gagawin ko muna yung musical ko so maybe after that saka at magse-celebrate, the 37th year," he added.

(Actually, my anniversary is this year. This is my 35th year. But it's also Regine's big concert. So I want her to shine this year. Then next year, I'll do my musical first so maybe after that, we'll celebrate my 37th year.)
