Issues related to the West Philippine Sea are among the topics President Marcos and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio are expected to discuss during the latter's visit in Manila.

Citing a statement of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Malacañang said on Thursday, Nov. 2, that Marcos and Kishida "are set to discuss on Friday the issues on the West Philippine Sea (WPS) and Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA)."
Kishida will visit the Philippines from Nov. 3 to 4, which will be highlighted by his bilateral meeting with the President upon his arrival here.
“Both leaders are expected to discuss the two countries’ multifaceted and dynamic cooperation on political and security cooperation and economic and people-to-people relations,” the DFA said.
“Among the specific issues to be discussed are the West Philippine Sea, trade and investment, and Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA). They will also exchange views on major regional, international, and United Nations issues affecting the region and the world,” it added.
Marcos will receive the Prime Minister during a welcoming ceremony at the Malacañan Palace on Friday.
Before the visit of Kishida to the Philippines, Marcos undertook his official visit to Japan in February 2023, sealing $13 billion worth of agreements that were seen to yield thousands of jobs for Filipinos.
