LRT-1 Heritage Transit Tour to boost Metro Manila tourism

The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) has forged a partnership with Renacimiento Manila in launching the LRT (Light Rail Transit)-1 Heritage Transit Tour to further strengthen urban tourism and visit of historical near the mass transport stations.

LRMC Head of Corporate Communications and Customer Relations Jacqueline S. Gorospe said the LRT-1 Heritage Transit Tour seeks to showcase Manila's rich cultural legacy by utilizing the LRT-1, one of the city's largest mass transit systems.

“Tourism is inevitably tied to transport. In both the history of the nation and the passengers' everyday lives, LRT-1 is very significant. It is in a great position to emphasize how public transportation enables people to explore the city and learn about the stories that have influenced it throughout time,: said Gorospe.

Tour participants will explore some of the historic LRT-1 routes which start at Central Station with a meet-up point, and participants will then board trains to Vito Cruz Station to explore the landmarks of Calle Vito Cruz, Carrriedo Station to discover Manila's old downtown, and United Nations Station to enjoy views of the National Museum and historic Luneta Park.

LRT-1 is Southeast Asia's first light rail transit system and is seen as the spiritual heir to the tranvias, pre-war Manila's electric trams.

“We are deeply honored to be in this partnership with the LRMC. We are united in our advocacy of promoting Manila’s cultural heritage and historical routes through active transport like the LRT-1,” said Renacimiento Manila President Diego Gabriel B. Torres.

This year marks the pilot run of the LRT-1 Heritage Transit Tour with scheduled paid tours for the public on Sunday, Nov. 19, Saturday, Nov. 25, and Saturday, Dec.10 which cost only Php500 including exclusive LRT-1 ikotMNL merchandise, a souvenir map, and a beepTM card with unlimited LRT-1 fares for the day.
