DHSUD commits jobs, livelihood assistance to gov't housing beneficiaries
The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has vowed to assist beneficiaries of the government’s housing program in providing jobs and other livelihood programs near their housing sites.
DHSUD) Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar said the program is intended for informal settler families (ISFs) and is designed under the in-city and on-site concept of the government’s housing projects across the country.
“We are not only focusing on the housing, we are also finding wats to ensure a stable livelihood for the beneficiaries, especially the poorest of the poor, because the housing program will be sustainable if there will be stable livelihood and employment for the beneficiaries,” said Acuzar.
‘It is important that housing beneficiaries could establish livelihood or stable job within the vicinities of government housing projects, which is what President Marcos' concept of sustainable human settlements and township development is all about,” he added.
This is the reason, according to Acuzar, why he signed an agreement with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) which is aimed at providing training programs to the housing beneficiaries.
The agreement is expected to fill in the gaps in existing industries in areas where the beneficiaries of housing projects are located.
Under the MOA, DHSUD is tasked to gather data on the preferred skills of beneficiaries and provide TESDA the list of participants for the training, among other related responsibilities.
Aside from skills and livelihood training, TESDA, will also provide other forms of technical assistance as necessary, subject to government rules and regulations.
