BACOLOD CITY – An individual was injured and 10 houses were damaged in a fire in Purok 6, Barangay 1, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on All Saints’ Day, November 1.

Eight houses were totally destroyed and two others were partially damaged, Fire Officer 2 Alfie Gravela, arson investigator of the Kabankalan City Fire Station, said.
Gravela said the fire broke out around 3:10 p.m. and affected 13 families composed of 58 individuals.
He said the fire spread quickly as most houses were made of light materials. Fire out was declared after an hour.
Affected families were temporarily sheltered in a covered court near the barangay hall.
Damage to property was estimated at P75,000. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has yet to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
The city government has extended financial assistance to affected households.
Village chair’s rest house razed
The rest house of a re-elected barangay captain in Isabela, Negros Occidental was destroyed in a fire in Barangay Libas on All Saints’ Day.
Police Capt. Ar-jay Dangarang, Isabela police chief, said that Barangay Libas Captain Brenda Fernandez was not at home when the fire broke out around 11:30 a.m.
The house was made of light materials, according to the police. The fire left an estimated P100,000 worth of damage and no injuries were reported.
