Wong bags silver in World Wushu Championships

Agatha Wong added another feather in her cap by capturing the silver medal in the IWUF World Wushu Championships in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday, Nov. 19 (Sunday in Manila).

The 25-year-old multiple Southeast Asian Games champion, who is also a medical student, displayed grace and agility in her routine to score 9.776 for the honors in the women’s taijiquan.

She actually posted a similar score with eventual gold medalist Zeanne Zhi Ning of Singapore, but settled for the silver after tiebreaks were applied.

Brunei’s Basma Lachkar bagged the bronze with 9.770.

Wong’s feat matched her silver-medal achievement in the 2015 edition held in Jakarta, Indonesia while also following up her runner-up finish in the World Combat Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia just last month.

Last May, she also bagged the gold medal in the taijijian + taijiquan event at the 32^nd Southeast Asian Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The triumph was the first podium finish for the 16-player Philippine team competing in the tournament.

Meanwhile, the country has been given the hosting rights of the world championships in 2027.
