Ahanmisi made his much-awaited debut with Ginebra ironically against Converge where he had a breakout season last year that rewarded him a Most Improved Player plum.

The 32-year-old combo guard said he still considered the FiberXers as his family, especially head coach Aldin Ayo who allowed him to blossom into the potent player that he is today.

Ahanmisi was very much aware of that, and even paid tribute to his former coach when he was awarded with the trophy during the 47th Season Leo Awards.

“They’re my family over there. I said hi to coach Ayo in the beginning nothing but love from me over there Like I said credit to him and my teammates to get that award,” said Ahanmisi, who shared that he still bonded with former teammates from time to time.

As natural competitors though, Ahanmisi knew that he and his former teammates need to set friendship aside when they step on the court.

Ahanmisi did fairly well in his first game after finishing with an all-around effort of seven points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals as a starter, although the FiberXers familiarity on his game may have contributed in limiting his impact on the floor.

The third overall pick of the 2015 draft believes he still has more to give for the Kings.

“I definitely have more to give to the table. This is the game for me to get my feet wet obviously.  I'm just happy that we came out with the win. This is the first game of the season there’s always room to improve,” said Ahanmisi, adding it was strange to hear the crowd now on his side.

“It’s a crazy feeling. I've been in the league for I think seven, eight years so it’s crazy to be finally on this side with the fans on your side. It’s fun,” he added.
