Lyceum bucked a slow start behind the efforts of Enoch Valdez and Gyle Montaño as it squeaked past San Sebastian, 83-80, to secure a Final Four ticket in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Friday, Nov. 17.

Valdez and Montaño delivered the goods for the Pirates in the second half that gave them enough cushion while spoiling the hot shooting of Alex Desoyo for the Golden Stags as the Pirates improved to 12-4 at second.
The win also boosted Lyceum’s bid for a twice-to-beat bonus.
Montaño unloaded 22 points built on an 8-of-10 shooting from the field spiked by four triples, while Valdez put an all-around effort of 18 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, two steals and three blocks.
Burly big man Shawn Umali chalked up 13 points, five rebounds and four assists while Mclaude Guadaña added 10 points for the Pirates.
San Sebastian actually pulled off a splendid output going into the break, but the table turned around simultaneously as both teams exchanged blows in the second half from Montaño and Desoyo.
Desoyo, who fired 22 points, orchestrated the offense for the John Kallos-mentored squad to give San Sebastian a 59-55 lead going to the final period.
But Valdez was there to fuel Lyceum by knocking down timely baskets particularly in the waning minutes that gave them an 83-76 edge.
SSC-R also had a chance to knot the count at 83 and send the game into overtime but Romel Calahat’s desperate, Hail Mary three-point attempt failed to its mark as the final buzzer sounded.
The Stags fell to 5-11.
