LIST: 4 PH universities enter 2024 QS Asia rankings for the first time

UP is still the top university in the Philippines

For the first time, four Philippine universities—namely, the University of San Carlos (USC), Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), Far Eastern University Manila (FEU), and Mindanao State University (MSU)—have been included in the 2024 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings in Asia.

The results, disclosed on Nov. 8, 2023, reveal that USC and PUP secured positions in the 551-600 range, FEU-Manila ranked 701-750, and MSU obtained a ranking of 801+.

These four institutions now join the ranks of 12 other Philippine universities that were previously listed and have reappeared in the rankings. Among them, three universities improved their positions, while nine experienced a decline.

The University of the Philippines remains the top-ranked university in the country. In 2023, it was placed 87th and has now advanced to the 78th position among 856 Asian universities in the latest rankings.

The annual QS Asia Rankings, initiated in 2009, aim to showcase the leading universities in the region. QS employs 11 criteria to evaluate institutions, including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, international research network, citations per paper, papers per faculty, staff holding a Ph.D., percentage of international faculty and students, and the proportions of inbound and outbound exchange students.
