House Speaker Martin Romualdez has assured the victims of the major earthquake in Mindanao that help is on its way from various agencies. 

"My office is actively coordinating with key agencies, including Phivolcs (Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology) and the NDRRMC (National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council), to facilitate prompt and effective response actions," Romualdez said in a statement Friday night, Nov. 17. 

"The House is committed to supporting the national government in mobilizing necessary resources for the relief and rehabilitation of the affected communities," underscored the Leyte 1st district representative.  

As of this posting, reports are still coming in as to extent of the damage caused by the earthquake, which was initially said to have reached magnitude 7.2. It was eventually scaled down to magnitude 6.8 by Phivolcs. 

Among the affected areas were Davao Occidental, Saranggani, and South Cotabato. 

Romualdez, president of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party, stressed the importance of prioritizing the safety and welfare of the citizenry. 

"The House of Representatives extends its unwavering support to the people of Mindanao following the severe magnitude 6.8 earthquake. We are keeping our kababayans in the impacted areas in our thoughts and prayers as they face this difficult situation," he said. 

"This is a moment for all Filipinos to unite and show our collective strength. Your kindness and aid are crucial in helping those affected by this calamity," Romualdez added. 

The Speaker also assured those affected by the tremblor that, "You are not facing this alone." 

Romualdez is part of the official delegation of President Marcos' ongoing trip to the United States.
