The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed three infrastructure projects in Iloilo province that now provide better and faster mobility for residents, and protect them from flooding.
DPWH Regional Office 6 OIC-Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel said the completed infrastructure projects are the concrete reblocking along Oton-Mambog-Abilay-San Jose Road in the municipality of San Miguel worth P8.1-million, the concrete paving of an access road along te Iloilo Floodway in Pavia worth P6.9-million, and a P4.9-million multi-purpose building in Barangay Lupa, Sta. Barbara.
He said the concrete reblocking with an 857-lineal meter portion of the Oton-Mambog-Abilay-San Jose Road will serve as a more convenient and secure alternative to using the main road when traveling from central to southern Iloilo.
Meanwhile, Oropel said the concrete road in Barangay Balabag in Pavia will boost farmers' travel access to the market and protect residents from flash floods during the rainy season.
Finally, the multi-purpose building involves the construction of a 16.5-by-30-meter structure with six spans of roof framing, thirteen sets of reinforced concrete columns, and painting and electrical work which now serves as a temporary shelter during emergencies and an all-weather location for community events and sports.
Oropel said the completion of the projects “demonstrates the commitment of the DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office to improving the quality of infrastructure and the living conditions of Ilonggos.” (Trixee Rosel)
