Couple killed in Mindanao earthquake


GENERAL SANTOS CITY – A couple was reportedly killed in the magnitude-6.8 earthquake that struck a wide area of Mindanao on Friday afternoon, November 17.

Police identified the fatalities as Danny Ginung, 26, and his wife, Jane, 18.

The victims were killed by a concrete wall that collapsed on them in their workplace in Barangay San Isidro, this city.

Disaster officials reported that a landslide closed the national highway going to tourist destination areas in Glan, Sarangani.

Despite the earthquake, the Office of the Civil Defense in the South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos area said there was no threat of a tsunami in the coastal areas of this city and Sarangani.

A power outage hit here and Sarangani for more than two hours after the earthquake.
