Following the important preliminary competition last Nov. 15, Miss Colombia joined Misses Puerto Rico and Thailand as among the favorite candidates to win the 2023 Miss Universe crown in El Salvador on Sunday, Nov. 18 (Nov. 19 Manila time), according to betting sites abroad.
In a report by the OLGB betting community, the odds for the crown were split among the three candidates following the preliminary competition, where the candidates paraded in evening gowns and swimsuits.
"Bookies now have odds up for this weekend's Miss Universe 2023 awards show, with the betting market unable to split the top three in the betting.
"Miss Colombia Camila Avella, Miss Thailand Anntonia Porsild, and Miss Puerto Rico Karla Guilfu Acevedo are joint favorites at 9/1 to win the prestigious award this weekend.
"The market starts at 9/1 with those three contestants having a 10 percent chance of winning the Power of Unity Crown in Saturday evening's show.
"The Power of Unity Crown is made of 18 carats gold and studded with 1,770 diamonds, which ultimately is given to the winner to wear at events throughout their reign," the report said.
Before the preliminary show, Puerto Rico and Thailand were the top two favorite girls to win the crown.
It's important to note that not all betting sites make accurate predictions. In 2015, Pia Wurtzbach was not a top contender among betting sites, but she won the Miss Universe crown.
In 2017, however, some betting sites correctly predicted that Miss South Africa Demi Leigh Nel-Peters would win Miss Universe, as she shared the top spot with Miss Thailand Maria Poonlertlarp during forecasts.
