The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) identified the couple as “Ka Nonoy” and his live-in-partner “Ka Bebe.”
The couple surrendered to the Tubungan Municipal Police Station led by Police Capt. Rodel Ojano in the presence of Mayor Roquito Tacsagon.
Ka Nonoy and Ka Bebe are members of the Baloy Platoon Squad under the Jose Percival Estocada Command of the NPA Central Front Committee in Panay.
Their surrender was negotiated by the parents and relatives of Ka Nonoy.
The couple told authorities they were no longer interested in the underground movement as it only gave them hardship.
Police Col. Rolando Palomo, Iloilo police chief, cited the couple for surrendering.
“I am pleased with their decision to go down from the mountains and live a peaceful life in mainstream society,” said Palomo in a statement released on Thursday, November 16.
Palomo urged other communist rebels to surrender and avail themselves of government livelihood package to enable them to start their lives anew.
