Huawei, a global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure, hopes to provide the new wireless networking technology 7 (Wifi 7) to the education sector, among other enterprises and government agencies.

During the Huawei Internet Protocol (IP) Club on Thursday, Nov. 16, Hacken Li, the chief technology officer for Datacom product line, presented the Wifi 7 to local partners about the many technological benefits of faster internet connectivity.

Li said that Wifi 7 is a new spectrum, which is believed to have low interference and better signals than existing internet speeds.

With this, he hopes to bring the new technology to high schools and universities to aid with online learning.

“Education, government, manufacturing, [and other sectors] are doing the digital transformation first,” he said to reporters.

Huawei chief also hopes that Philippine regulations consider the wifi launch to be able to tap into the education sector and other enterprises in need of sturdier digital connection.

“The university should be the pioneer of new technology, we would like to adopt a new technology first for education, examination, even manufacturing, we will improve the efficiency and the wifi coverage,” said Li.

He also mentioned Huawei has partnered with the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in renewing their computing cluster as an example of technologically advanced learning.

“They are using digital ways to fill in examinations, among other technological advantages. This means they have laptops, and they can work everywhere, in dorms, classrooms, etc.” Li shared.

Meanwhile, when asked if Wifi 7 and Huawei’s other technologies could help with the country’s economic recovery, he said that having a solid infrastructure for ICT needs should be the first strategy to consider.

“If we want to be more efficient in the digital transformation, the first step is to have very strong digital infrastructure so that servers that Huawei can offer the best solution for Philippine enterprises and government,” he explained. (Gabriell Christel Galang)
