MMDA: DOTr allows convoy of PH 5 highest officials to use EDSA Bus Lane in new guideline
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has approved the recommendation of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to allow the convoy of the top highest officials of the country to use the EDSA Bus Lane.
MMDA chairman Don Artes said the DOTr has already released a new guideline as to the vehicles exempted in using the EDSA Bus Lane which is supposed to be exclusive for passenger buses and marked vehicles involved in emergency responses such as ambulances.
In the DOTr guideline, Artes said the convoys of the President and the Vice President are authorized to use the Bus Lane along with the convoys of vehicles of the Senate President and the House Speaker.
The convoy of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is also allowed to use the EDSA Bus Lane.
On Monday, Artes said they recommended to the DOTr the exemption of the vehicles of the five highest security of the country because of the nature of responsibilities that come with the position they hold.
“We already have the list of the exempted vehicles from the DOTr and we will implement that starting on Monday (Nov. 20),” said Artes in a press briefing on Thursday, Nov. 16.
“The rule is that if the vehicle is not on the list of those exempted, then they will be apprehended and sanctioned. This will be strictly implemented starting Monday,” he added.
In the new guideline released by the DOTr, all marked vehicles of all government agencies are not exempted in the exclusive use of the EDSA Bus Lane, as well as those with the protocol license plates.
