BIR thanks DOF for recognizing tax collection efforts

Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui Jr. expressed gratitude to the Department of Finance (DOF) for acknowledging the tireless efforts in raising government funds.

In a press release last Nov. 15, the DOF praised the BIR for performing exceptionally well in revenue collection and tax law enforcement.

Lumagui said the he BIR team remains dedicated to collecting revenue and delivering top-tier service to taxpayers. We appreciate the DOF's recognition of our efforts."

As an agency under the DOF, the BIR is a crucial source of government funds, aiming to raise at least P2.6 trillion this year.

Lumagui temporarily withheld releasing collection reports for the first 10 months of the year due to the shift in the payment schedule of value-added tax from monthly to quarterly, with the results of the last quarter expected in January next year.

Finance Secretary Benjamin E. Diokno highlighted the BIR's success in simplifying tax compliance through digitalization and combating tax evasion. 

He expressed confidence in surpassing the collection targets outlined in the Medium-Term Fiscal Framework (MTFF) from this year until 2028 through the bureau's initiatives.
