Deputy Minority leader and ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro claimed on Thursday, Nov. 16 that there were "supposed impeachment talks" in the House of Representatives against Vice President Sara Duterte.

However, the Makabayan solon was quick to note that such impeachment talks against the Vice President were "not serious" and "premature".

"The supposed talks on impeachment now are mere discussions of some congressmen and not a serious move against Vice President Sara Duterte," Castro said in a statement.

"As it is though, we in the Makabayan bloc think that impeachment talks now are still premature but it highlights the growing rift in the supposed UniTeam," said the teacher-solon.

"What we need now from VP Duterte is to explain how she spent her illegal P125 million confidential funds in 2022," the veteran congresswoman said, referring to the special funds that the Office of the Vice President (OVP) allegedly spent in a span of 11 days in December last year.

"Ang dami nang nangyari mula Agosto hanggang ngayon ay di pa din sinasagot ni VP Duterte saan niya ginastos ang P125 milyon na confidential funds sa loob lang ng 11 araw. Sana naman ay sagutin na niya ngayon," concluded Castro.

(A lot has happened since August but up to now, VP Duterte has yet to explain where she spent the P125-million confidential funds in just 11 days. I hope she addresses the issue now.)

The budget process in the House of Representatives for the passage of the 2024 spending plan began last August.
