Adamson holds off NU to stay in Final Four hunt

Adamson held off National University in a crucial 68-62 victory in the second round of the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament on Wednesday night, Nov. 15, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

As it stands, the defending champions Ateneo Blue Eagles secured at least a fourth-seed playoff earlier with a superior 7-6 slate.

If Ateneo loses to De La Salle on Saturday and Adamson edges University of the East on Sunday, both squads will fall into another two-way tie and face each other in a playoff to dispute the last semifinal slot.

Didat Hanapi finished with a team-high 13 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Matthew Montebon and Ced Manzano delivered 12 markers each.

The Soaring Falcons led through the second half, but the Bulldogs stayed within striking distance 55-52 following Kean Baclaan’s triple in the early goings of the final period.

With half a minute left in the game, Jake Figueroa was sent to the line and claimed two of his freebies, but Joshua Yerro and Matt Erolon iced the game with four straight points.

Baclaan’s 24-point explosion was completely spoiled as the second-seed Bulldogs found themselves in a two-way tie with De La Salle Green Archers with similar 10-3 records.
