Shear line, 'amihan' to bring rains across Luzon

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday, Nov. 14, said the shear line affects Southern Luzon while the northeast monsoon or "amihan" prevails in Northern and Central Luzon.

PAGASA said Bicol Region, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora, Rizal, Laguna, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Samar will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the shear line---an area where the cold northeasterly winds and warm easterlies converge.

PAGASA said possible flash floods or landslides may be expected in affected areas due to moderate to heavy rains.

In Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province and the rest of Cagayan Valley, cloudy skies with rains will be experienced while in Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, and the rest of Central Luzon, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains will be felt due to amihan.

PAGASA said Metro Manila and the rest of the country will also have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public of risks from possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, weather specialist Veronica Torres said PAGASA still monitors the Low Pressure Area (LPA) outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) which was 1,575 kilometers east of southern Luzon.

Torres added that PAGASA is not ruling out the possibility for the LPA to develop into a tropical cyclone in the following days.
