House Speaker Martin Romualdez's advance birthday celebration with his lawmaker-colleagues on Monday night, Nov. 13 was unforgettable.
Romauldez--arguably enjoying the height of his popularity and in and out of Congress--gave such description of his birthday bash in Taguig City, the guest of honor of which was President Marcos.
“Hindi ko makakalimutan ang pagdiriwang na ito kasama ang mga taong naging bahagi sa adhikain natin na mapabuti ang kalagayan ng bawat pamilyang Pilipino,” the Speaker said in a speech.
(I will never forget this celebration with the people who share in our aspiration of improving every Filipino families' lives.)
“Asahan po ninyo na ilalalaan ko ang natitirang bahagi ng buhay na ipinagkakaloob ng Maykapal para sa kapakanan ng bayan,” the Leyte 1st district congressman added.
(Rest assured that I will dedicate the remaining part of my life, as given by God, in serving the country.)
For his part, Marcos had nothing but words of praise and gratitude to Romualdez. At the party, the President commended Romualdez for his "fine leadership" in the 300-plus strong House of Representatives.
Marcos also highlighted the importance of unity; recognizing the challenges brought about by collaboration, but also underscoring its necessity for a better future.
“We have come to realize that there is very little we can achieve unless we work together. So, the House of Representatives, both Houses of Congress…they play a critical part in all our aspirations to make life better for every Filipino,” he told the audience at the party.
“I cannot finish without pointing out that this very strong message of support could not have been possible without the fine leadership of our Speaker, our birthday boy Speaker Martin Romualdez,” the Chief Executive added.
Romualdez's actual birthday is Nov. 14. He turned 60.
