Manila-based job consultancy firm shut down for illegal recruitment

A foreign job consultancy company based in Manila was shut down on Tuesday, Nov 14, for operating without necessary clearances from the government, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.

DMW officer-in-charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the Double D Training Consultancy Services (DDTC) is neither licensed nor authorized by the DMW to recruit and place Filipino seafarers, or to refer them directly to foreign employers.

On Tuesday, the firm’s office located at Room 301,  MBI Building, Ronquillo corner Ongpin Streets in Sta. Cruz, Manila was closed down after the DMW received reports of its alleged illegal operation.

Cacdac sad all the people behind the operation of the DDTC will face charges of illegal recruitment.

Based on the surveillance conducted by the DMW, it revealed that the DDTC is charging P80,000 processing fee per applicant for various sea-based positions, such as able-bodied seaman, oiler, and engineer.

“To our kababayans, especially those who want to work overseas, do not deal with consultancy firms that offer to get you jobs abroad. Always check the DMW website (www.dmw.gov.ph) for the list of licensed agencies and approved job orders,” said Cacdac.

“DDTC has no license so it has no right to hire or deploy seafarers abroad,” he added.

Cacdsac said the closure of DDTC will result in the inclusion of the firm and its staff in the DMW “List of Persons and Establishments with Derogatory Record” to prevent them from participating in the government’s overseas recruitment program.
