A determined Farm Fresh made short work of Gerflor, 25-17, 25-17, 25-15, to notch its first victory in franchise history in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

In a battle of cellar-dwellers, it was the Foxies who emerged victorious as they pummeled the Defenders with ferocious attacks spearheaded by Kate Santiago.

Santiago took charge and came up with 18 points, all coming from the attack line, as Farm Fresh finally ended its seven-game slump with this first triumph.

Trisha Tubu also backstopped the Foxies by firing nine points, while Camill Avila and Rizza Cruz chipped in with combined 12 points.

Farm Fresh coach Jerry Yan also had to thank setter Louie Romero for issuing 13 of the team’s 23 excellent sets that allowed their spikers to destroy Gerflor’s weak defense.

“Sobrang thankful kami sa panalong ito kasi finally, nakita namin yung mga pinaghirapan namin sa practice,” said Romero, whose team only needed 71 minutes in beating the Defenders.

The Gerflor volleybelles, who were trying to keep their heads high despite facing internal problems, made several attempts to outshine the Foxies behind the efforts of Jeanette Villareal and Danika Gendrauli, to no avail.

Villareal and Gendrauli finished with 12 and 11 points for the Defenders, who plummeted deeper into the standings by absorbing their seventh consecutive loss.

It also didn’t help that Gerflor only managed 31 kills compared to Farm Fresh’s 49, while giving up 18 points on errors.
