Makabayan solon Gabriela Party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas refuses to move on from the issue of confidential funds involving Vice President Sara Duterte.

On Tuesday, Nov. 14, Brosas issued a reminder of sorts to the Commission on Audit (COA) to release the audit of the Office of the Vice President's (OVP) confidential fund expenses.

The agency had earlier committed to finish by Nov. 15 the audit of the P125-million confidential funds that the OVP under Duterte used late last year.

"We believe that the Filipino people have the right to know how public funds are being utilized, especially when it involves significant amounts such as the OVP's P125-million corruption-prone confidential funds transferred from the Office of the President (OP) and spent within just 11 days in 2022," Brosas said.

The militant congresswoman made the call a few days after Duterte announced that she was no longer pursuing the P650 million worth of confidential funds that she had asked for under the proposed 2024 national budget.

The Vice President had rued the divisiveness that the confidential funds has caused among Filipinos.

"It is crucial that the full audit report of all government agencies be made available to the public," insisted Brosas, who for months has been criticizing Duterte for her supposedly secretive use of the P125-million special funds.

She said there is a need to uphold transparency and accountability in the handling of public funds to ensure that they are used for their intended purposes and not for personal gain.

"We urge the government to address this issue and ensure the responsible utilization of public funds. It is crucial that confidential funds undergo the same audit procedures implemented in any other government expenses," concluded Brosas.
