ZAMBOANGA CITY – Forty families lost their homes in a fire in a residential area in Upper Calarian here on Tuesday, November 14.

The Bureau of Fire Protection said the fire started at 4:20 a.m. in the house of a certain Roger Cañete.
The fire quickly spread to structures made of light materials and reached second alarm before it was put under control at 5:13 a.m.
Damage to property was P1.2 million.
Mayor John Dalipe ordered the City Social Welfare and Development Office to provide immediate assistance to the victims who sought temporary shelter at the Flamingo covered court.
Fire investigators are still probing the incident.
