The Earthshot Prize 2023 celebrated its third year with an awards ceremony held at the Mediacorp Campus in Singapore on Nov. 7, 2023. Five eco-initiatives were recognized for their impactful environmental solutions, with each receiving $1.2 million to scale their projects.
Among the Earthshot Prize winners are the following: Acción Andina was acknowledged for its efforts in restoring Andean forests, while the WildAid Marine Program received recognition for its contributions to ocean conservation. GRST was honored for pioneering sustainable electric vehicle (EV) battery recycling, and S4S Technologies was celebrated for empowering farmers through solar-powered dryers. Boomitra was lauded for its role in advancing regenerative agriculture via a carbon-credit marketplace.
Prince William, founder and president of the Earthshot Prize, emphasized the crucial role of human innovation in addressing environmental challenges. He said, "We face a stark choice: either we continue as we are and irreparably damage our planet, or we remember our unique power as humans and our continual ability to lead, innovate, and problem-solve. The next 10 years present us with one of our greatest tests – a decade of action to repair the Earth."
The awards ceremony marked a historic moment as finalists attended in person for the first time. This event coincided with the inaugural Earthshot Week, a series of events that commenced on Nov. 6, bringing together global leaders, businesses, and investors in Singapore to accelerate the solutions proposed by the winners and finalists.
As part of Earthshot Week, the eco-initiative unveiled its new pilot platform, "Launchpad," designed to facilitate funding and growth for current and past finalists and nominees. Launchpad aims to connect them with potential funders, providing exclusive access to curated events, scale-oriented coalitions, mentorship sessions, community gatherings, and solution briefings for CEOs.
The Earthshot Prize, with the goal of combating climate change by 2030, emphasizes the urgency of accelerating environmental solutions with seven years left in the decade. The call to action is clear: don't merely observe; become an integral part of the remedy.
