MPD recaptures 9 Tondo jail escapees

All nine inmates, who escaped from the custodial facility of the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 1 in Tondo, have been recatured.

The jailbreakers were identified as Arnold Olino, MJ Tuazon, Andal Antipuesto, Albert Calayas, Zimar Adriano, Gian Carlo Rayala, Master Cedric Velasco, John Joseph Laguna, and Jefferson Sapa Tumbaga who was only arrested this morning.

The nine inmates bolted the MPD Raxabago custodial facility at past midnight on Wednesday.

Seven of the nine escapees were immediately arrested on the same day, while Zodiacal and Tumbaga were arrested after days of negotiation with their families.

Police said the escapees broke the steel bars inside their jail cell and encouraged other detainees to join them in their escape.

The last escapee, Tumbaga, was arrested in a joint operation of units of MPD at around 2:15 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 13, at Compound Soldiers, Hill Narra Street, Bacoor City, Cavite.

Meanwhile, MPD operatives said they are currently conferring practices to strengthen the security measure within the MPD custodial facilities to prevent the incident from happening again.
