Joyride secures ‘super taxi’ supply from Toyota

Ride-hailing and delivery group JoyRide Philippines has partnered with GT Capital Holdings Inc. and Mitsui & Co. Ltd.’s joint venture Toyota Manila Bay Corporation (TMBC) to secure its vehicle supply for its newly-launched “Super Taxi” service.

During the JoyRide Super Taxi press launch on Nov. 8, JoyRide Senior Vice President for Corporate Affairs Noli Eala said it will roll out its Super Taxis, using Toyota Veloz as the standard model for its vehicles.

"The Toyota Veloz was chosen for its comfort and spacious interior, coupled with its sleekness, modern design, and advanced features. This choice perfectly aligns with our vision to offer commuters a superior transportation experience,” explained Eala.

"We are now talking with JoyRide, and we have to prepare enough numbers to supply the Philippine market," said TMBC President Tatsuro Okazaki.

The Super Taxis, inspired by taxis in Japan, is a five-seater cab with high roofing, a big trunk space, a digital toplight, and features an in-cabin infotainment system and USB charging ports.

Some 25 Super Taxis have been deployed by JoyRide in Metro Manila, which can be hailed on the street or booked through the JoyRide Superapp.

JoyRide is set to increase its Super Taxi fleet by 2024.

Present also at the JoyRide event were Kazuhiro Nomura, Mitsui & Co., Ltd. Country Chairman and General Manager, and Yuki Hashimoto, TMBC Vice President for Planning and Control.

Currently, JoyRide is offering both two-wheel and four-wheel transport options like the JoyRide Car, JoyRide Taxi Cab, and JoyRide MC Taxi.

Since it launched in 2019, JoyRide has incurred 30,000 two-wheel and four-wheel driver-partners in Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Cebu, and Baguio City, with plans to extend services to Pampanga and Ilocos Norte.
