Elderly passenger dies onboard Batangas-bound vessel


CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – A 72-year-old passenger died after experiencing sudden dizziness and losing consciousness onboard a Batangas-bound vessel at the city port here at midnight on November 12.

The Philippine Coast Guard-District Southern Tagalog said the passenger, Marcelo Evangelista, a resident of Bongabong town, Oriental Mindoro, was no longer responsive when rescuers from the PCG and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office-Oriental Mindoro transported him to the provincial hospital.

Evangelista was pronounced dead-on-arrival by the attending physician.

Ohea, the victim’s daughter who accompanied him during their trip, said that her father experienced dizziness and difficulty in breathing upon returning to the accommodation area of the vessel.

She notified the vessel’s crew about the physical condition of her father. The crew of the vessel, MV Binibining Coron, alerted the PCG and Philippine Ports Authority which coordinated with PDRRMC for an immediate assessment.

PCG said they are conducting proper steps to notify the other members of the victim’s family.
