Akbayan welcomed the decision of the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court Branch 206 to release former Senator Leila de Lima after over six years of imprisonment.

Akbayan, in a statement issued on Monday, Nov. 13, said the detainment of De Lima was "unjust."

The group also noted that former President Rodrigo Duterte should be in "jail" because of the "fabricated" charges towards her.

"The individual most accountable for this grave injustice must be held responsible," said Akbayan President Rafaela David.

Duterte, David added, must "face the consequences of their actions."

Consider ICC jurisdiction

Meanwhile, Akbayan challenged the Marcos administration to acknowledge the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC) --- the one which is about to issue warrants of arrest against Duterte and his associates for the "thousands of deaths" from the war on drugs.

Moreover, Akbayan proposed to have an "EJK truth commission" to debunk and document the "killings" from Duterte's drug war and "to bring justice."

"We call on the Marcos administration to recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC and help it in enforcing the arrest warrants against Duterte," the group said.

"Side by side, we call for the creation of a truth commission to render justice to all EJK victims and hold all perpetrators accountable," it added.
