300 police recruits in Ilocos region told to be agents of change

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Police Regional Office-1 (Ilocos) Director Police Brig. Gen. John Chua challenged 300 recruits during their oathtaking ceremony on Monday to become agents and implementers of change and to work hard for the country.

"I hope to see you act as role models in the continuing search for security and stability, and in ensuring the attainment of the Philippine National Police plans (PNP) and programs aligned with the flagship program of our Chief PNP's Five Focused Agenda and Serbisyong Nagkakaisa,” he said.

Chua told them to become the core of the new police force.

“Lagi nating tatandaan na ang mga pulis ay maka-Diyos, makatao, makabayan, responsable, respetado, at disiplinado. Panindigan natin ang mga ito (We should always remember that the police is godly, pro-people, responsible, respected, and disciplined. We should live by these),” he added.

The police recruits from the Ilocos region will start their six-month basic recruit course following their oathtaking at the PRO-1.

"They are now police, upon their oath, in a temporary status, and it will take them six months of training for basic recruit course, and after that, they will immediately undergo the Field Training Program (FTP) where they will be having their on-the-job training in traffic, investigation, patrolling for another six months, and after they graduate in FTP they will be processed in a permanent status," Police Lt. Col. Benigno Sumawang, PRO-1 assistant chief at Regional Community Affairs Development Division, said in a phone interview.

Of the total number, 240 are males and 60 are females. They were part of the 2,384 applicants for the Philippine National Police (PNP) recruitment in the region.

The new police recruits will have the rank of patrolman or patrolwoman once they finish the training that will be conducted at the San Roque Power Corp. in Pangasinan.

"A patrolman, the lowest rank in the PNP organization, will be receiving a monthly basic pay of P29,668  exclusive of allowances while undergoing training," Sumawang said.
