3 dead as SUV rams 'habal-habal' in Samar

TACLOBAN CITY â€“ Three persons, including a three-year-old boy, were killed in a road accident on the national highway in Basey, Samar on Sunday, November 12.

Investigation said a Sports Utility Vehicle driven by Nicolas Sandoval, 55, a resident of this city, was traveling from Barangay San Fernando, Basey towards Tacloban City when, upon reaching the vicinity of Barangay Iba, the vehicle reportedly swerved and encroached on the opposite lane and accidentally collided with a "habal-habal" driven by Ronie Nuevas, 28.

As a result, Nuevas and his three back riders were thrown into the swampy area on the road shoulder.

The victims were taken to the Basey District Hospital where Nuevas and his two passengers identified as Joyce Cadaingan and her son were pronounced dead-on-arrival.

Sandoval and his passenger sustained bruises in the body. He was placed under police custody and faces appropriate charges in court.
